Successful JumpCross Competition at Greenfields of Avondale

Press Release

THE team at Greenfields of Avondale in Lanarkshire ran a hugely successful JumpCross competition with six riders qualifying for the prestigious national championships later in the year.

Three sections ran throughout the day with competitors travelling from throughout west central Scotland to take part.

Two riders from each class with travel south to the JumpCross headquarters at Grange Farm, Wittering, near Peterborough for the national championships in October.

Course designer David Gilliland developed a new JumpCross course for the competition taking full advantage of the diverse terrain available which included rolling hills, 10 acres of woodland, two lots of water, ditches and drops.

Said Nesta Gilliland of Greenfields of Avondale: “It was a great day; we had juniors, seniors and veterans as well as Pony Club and Riding Club members taking part with some wonderful competition.”

The first competition of the day, 2”9/3”3 class, saw Katie Drummond and the eye-catching grey Dulargy William put up a great effort, her round made all the more better by a clean jump over the joker. Taking second place was Lydia Kennett and Breeze.

In the 2”6 to 2”9 class, Amy Wylie and Cyrus were in great form to head the competition from Sandra Lamb and Winnatoe.

The final competition of the day saw Sarah McCafferty in top form winning a strong 2”6 class on Rocky after a brilliant round when going clear over the tricky joker fence.

Second went to Marion Reid and Magical Adventure who was just pipped to the winners post.

It is hoped, all six riders will make the journey south in the autumn to take part in the JumpCross National Championships.
