Lights, camera, action!
What a fantastic competition, at JumpCross Headquarters on Saturday 28th June. Nearly 90 competitors took part and with the added excitement of the competition being filmed by Horse and Country TV it made it a great day. The course had been altered to include an additional four fences and it certainly tested both horse and rider fitness. The day started with the Intro competition, 36 riders came forward to take on the JumpCross course. The most influential fence on the course in this first competition was fence five, a skinny fence just before a stream crossing. The secret to jumping this fence successfully, is getting straight as early as possible, there is a lot for your horse to look at. The top four placings were taken by two riders. Chloe Hutsby who travels all the way from Belper, Derbyshire to compete at Grange Farm was forth on Dun to Order. Third was Rebecca Woolley on Harvey, Chloe was second on Polly and the winner was Rebecca Woolley riding Poppy. Next, it was the Pony Club intro team competition. The teams are made up of four riders, with the best three scores added together to give a team score. Three teams took on the challenge, unfortunately just two teams finished with three scores to count, so it was a Burghley Pony Club head to head. The Burghley Harriers were the winners (Greta Mason, Alex Elliott, Silas Mason, Jake Webb). The Burghley Hurricanes had to settle for second place (Anna Haefeli, Gemma Ennis, Harriet Vickers and Greta Mason). The fences were raised to approximately 2’9 for the Group 3 senior competition. Seventeen riders took part, with the most influential fence on the course being the easibed ditch. Charlotte Pell riding Bobby’s Girl at only their second JumpCross competition and their first attempt at Group 3 came forth. Regular JumpCross competitor Malcolm Massey on his homebred horse Rafferty were third. Kate Elsey and Irish Whiskey Mac rode a rhythmical round to take second place. Sally Wagstaff and Gulliver took first prize. Ten junior competitiors came forward to the Group 3 junior competition. Brogan Cranfield riding Athens Ironwill jumped a nice clear round to take forth place. Ella Garfoot with Emoe were third. Charlotte Oldham and Indi came second and Rachel Woolley riding Harvey took first place. Only two teams competed in the Pony Club Group 3 team competition. The Burghley Spitfires (Samantha Kay, Brogan Cranfield and Jake Webb) had three riders meaning all the scores counted. The Fitzwilliam Hares (Chrissy Sanders, Alex Chadwick, Catriona Paterson and Ella Garfoot) were the winners. The final competition of the day was the Group 2 seniors. Six riders rode over the slightly higher course of 3’0-3’3. Vanessa Lowther and Charlem were forth, Steve Vendyback riding Fandango Boy came second. Amy Meadows and Red were second and Sally Wagstaff riding Gulliver came first.
