The competition went on despite the fog! After a foggy start the sun finally came out at Grange Farm for their competition on Saturday 27th September. The course was altered slightly with the addition of a few extra combination fences that needed careful and accurate riding. The day started with the Intro group. This group is a perfect introduction to JumpCross with the fence height set at 2’0-2’6. 30 competitors came forward and it was good to see some new combinations having their first competitive outing. The top four places were taken by two riders who are battling it out for the top place in the Grange Farm league, which is run throughout the season. The final placings will be decided at our final competition of the year in October. Rebecca Woolley took first and second place with Harvey and Poppy. Chloe Hutsby was in third and forth position with Polly and Dun to Order. Sallyanne Simpson riding Torus Spa took fifth place. Onto the Group 3 sections. First to ride the slightly altered course with the addition of riding downhill to the ditch for the first time were the juniors. Fitzwilliam Pony Club member, Ella Garfoot riding Emoe won this group. Burghley Pony Club members, Brogan Cranfield riding her new horse Lawson and Lisa Reid riding star, took second and third place. The final two placings went to Fitzwilliam Pony Club members Catriona Paterson on Mere’s Just-a-Mo and Charlotte Rodwell riding Freddie. The senior Group 3 riders were next to take on the JumpCross course. No particular fence caused problems and the downhill ditch rode well. Stephi Reynolds riding Ringwood Abi won this group. Sarah Wynn and Storm Child were second. League leader, Sally Wagstaff with Gulliver took third place. Susie Bliss, Burghley Pony Club member was trying JumpCross for the first time and was riding Charlotte Adams pony Indiana who is a regular at JumpCross, they had a good round to come forth. The final group of the day was Group 2 where the height of the fences is 3’0-3’3. There were a few new competitors having a go at this group for the first time. Caroline Witham-Grange, riding Abija won this group. Michelle Hitt and Rhapsody took second with Chrissy Sanders and Pebbles coming third. We also ran two Pony Club team competitions with a head-to-head between the Fitzwilliam and Burghley. At the Intro height the Fitzwilliam Flyers claimed top spot (Holly Steels riding two ponies, Phoebe Benson and Phillippa King). The Burghley Harrriers ( Bethany Fitt, Harriet Vickers, Alex Elliott and Samantha Kay) were second. At the Group 3 height the Fitzwilliam team came out on top too (Chrissy Sanders, Milly Cobley, Catriona Paterson and Ella Garfoot). The Burghley had to settle for second place (Lauren Dolby, Brogan Cranfield, Charlie Parkin and Lisa Reid). Our final competition of the season will be on Saturday 25th October. It is going to be an exciting finale to our league competition.
