Winners Enjoy JumpCross Lesson with Jeanette Bakewell

Press Release

Three lucky readers of Equestrian Life Magazine enjoyed a JumpCross lesson with International Event Rider, Jeanette Brakewell, at Grange Farm in Peterborough.

The riders were given a two hour lesson, which included water, banks and ditches over the undulating JumpCross course.

Lorna Bass, from Saxilby in Lincolnshire took her 10-year-old bay gelding, Gimbo along. Lorna has owned Gimbo for three and a half years and they have just started doing one day events.

Said Lorna: “I want to say thank you to Equestrian Life magazine for giving me the opportunity to take part in a JumpCross clinic with Jeanette Brakewell. I enjoyed it tremendously and would thoroughly recommend JumpCross to anyone!”

Kim Fisher from Worksop was taking her newly purchased five-year-old Irish Draught, Max, out for the first time. She was delighted with his behaviour and as the fences are not fixed to one size, he was able to have a go at everything on the course, without being over faced or spooked.

Lesley Keen from Redhill in Nottinghamshire and her 13-year-old chestnut gelding Mazus also thoroughly enjoyed the day. The pair mainly do dressage and a bit of cross country and showjumping.

Jeanette gave all three riders advice with their horses way of going and also general tips on how to ride a JumpCross course.

Said Jeanette: “When going around a JumpCross course you should keep a low base, as it helps sink your heels down in the stirrups keeping you more secure and also keeps the horse moving forward.”

Added Jeanette: “Another good tip is to remember to breathe! A lot of riders hold their breath without realising, but this makes the body go rigid and it affects your effectiveness in the saddle.”

Robin Dunlop of JumpCross said: “Having Jeanette available for the training day brought a lot of fun to the occasion and we were delighted that the three riders enjoyed themselves and were able to benefit from Jeanette’s many years competing and training at top-level.”

JumpCross is taking the equestrian world by storm, it is ideal for those riders who are nervous about jumping fixed fences, but would like the thrill of riding across country.
