Action Packed JumpCross Day At Strathearn Eventing

Positive riding and forward thinking were the order of the day at the recent JumpCross event at Strathearn Eventing in Perthshire held on April 27, 2008.

The Intro section provided competitors, both new and existing, the opportunity to experience the competition at entry level, with Lucie Donaldson taking first prize and Alice Craven finishing second.

Larisa Cathro won the 2’3” section with Lorna Haddow taking runner up spot.

Many riders turned out in force to take part in the 2’6” section where Stephanie O’Neil displayed some impressive riding to take first place and also took top honours in the 2’9” section to top off a very successful day.

With an interesting and inviting JumpCross course on hand at Strathearn Eventing, Sarah Houlden not only offers well run competitions but also holds regular training sessions through the year.

JumpCross training is perfect for building the horse’s confidence and teaching rhythm and consistency in their way of going.

Said Sarah: “Many young horses lack trust and confidence in jumping, I try to make schooling sessions interesting and jumping fun and not unnerving for the young horse.

“Not as intimidating as solid fences for the horse’s, JumpCross commands balance, skill and respect in order to jump them cleanly, teaching young horses the basics and enabling them to make the move successfully to Eventing or Working Hunter Classes.”

Whilst JumpCross is ideal for serious competitors wanting to improve their horse’s confidence, ability and versatility, JumpCross is also proving a hit amongst many family’s with the fences being more forgiving and kinder than solid fences.
