Sally & Gulliver Score Double Triumph Sally Wagstaff & Gulliver overcame recent ditch problems out eventing and scored a double triumph by claiming both Senior Group 3 and Group 2 sections at the JumpCross competition held on Saturday 26th May. A fine day welcomed competitors and spectators alike to Grange Farm to tackle a revised course containing a variety of fences placed cleverly on the terrain to ask questions of both horse and rider. A competitive field contested the intro competition. Charlotte Adams and Indiana, who is only just back in work following an injury, demonstrated how the course should be ridden and taking the fact that they also cleared the joker fence into account, they set an impressive target for the remainder of the field. A target that could not be beaten, leaving Charlotte and Indiana in first place following by Constance Copestake & 22 year old Smokey Joe in second and Teresa Stoner and Poirots Quest in third. Sally & Gulliver’s impressive clear in Group 3, including clearing the ditch, proved decisive in the Senior section, with a clear victory from Stephanie Caswell and Anything Goes aka Conker in second and JumpCross regulars, Stephanie Reynolds and Ringwood Abi in third. The competitive Junior Group 3 section, saw Madison Colbert and the speedy chestnut, Firefox claim first place ahead of Katie Knowles & Laddie who improved on their 10th place in the Intro section to take second place. Emily Meredith & Lettie, members of the Fitzwilliam Pony Club completed the top three. A select Pony Club team section saw the Burghley Pony Club triumph over the Fitzwilliam with the Burghley teams taking the first two placings. Levi Jackson, Constance Copstake, Bethany Ward & Lauren Dolby riding for the Burghley Spitfires took the first prize ahead of the Burghley Hurricanes in second and the Fitzwilliam Hares in third. The Knowles family were well represented in the final section of the day, Senior Group 2, with the very busy John Knowles partnering three of the seven horses entered! However, on his first visit, John had to settle for third as his highest placing riding Hughie. Jessica Gulland & Millie claimed second but no-one could beat Sally Wagstaff & Gulliver who, on this occasion at least, did not seem to have any problem with ditches! Finally, a plea from the commentator – can you please, when entering, provide some notes about yourself and your equine partner. It certainly helps to make the commentary a lot more interesting. Don’t be shy – we like to know about you all whether human or equine! Back to Top> |
